Electrical Installation Condition Report
Most electricians will visit to discuss your requirements free of charge. In addition to the specific job you have in mind, mention any doubts about your existing electrics. Electricians can carry out an electrical installation condition report – a sort of MOT for your home electrics. This will cost around £240 for a typical UK 3-bed property. The report will list all deviations from current regulations, classified by severity. You can then decide which, if any, of the deviations to rectify. You should add any of these essential tasks to your total cost.
We always stress that clients should understand the full implications of the electrical changes involved in a home renovation. If your existing electrics are not up to regulations, and the new electrics interact with the old, then more extensive work may be required before the new installation can be certified.
